| Abstract |
Recently Korean government has been enhancing environment‐friendly livestock policies. This is caused by the reasons as following. First, Korean farmers should improve the food safety and quality level of livestock products to compete with the imported products under the open economy. Secondly, it is very important to build the sustainable livestock farming system because livestock industry is affected seriously by the big livestock epidemic diseases. Thirdly, we can improve the environment problems of livestock farming and can supply organic manure to crop farmers by recycling livestock manure. Lastly, we need to prepare new systems to show consumers that domestic livestock products are safe. Environment–friendly livestock farming system contains policies such as: registration of livestock farmers and dealers, certification of environment–friendly livestock products and farms, HACCP certification of livestock farms, direct payment system for environment–friendly livestock products, license system for livestock farmers, prohibition of adding antibiotics to feed, improvement of stall environment and animal welfare, etc.
