Abstract This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract from Oenothera odorata in Eimeria-infected broiler chickens. Body weight gains of Chickens fed with 0.1% or 0.5% of O. odorata-supplemented diets were not influenced. Although the body weight gains were decreased in all the groups infected with E. maxima as compared to the normal group, there were no differences in body weight gains between unsupplemented group and two Oenothera odorata-supplemented groups when the broiler chickens were infected with E. maxima. The survival rate was 33.3% in the Eimeria-infected group fed with standard diet (positive control group). However, survival rates were increased by 32.8% and 61.1% in the groups fed with diet containing 0.1 and 0.5% O. odorata for 10 days compared with positive control group, respectively. Considering  ethanol extract from O. odorata had a inhibitory effect on the growth of Salmonella species, O. odorata could be used natural source for controlling avian disease such as salmonellosis and coccidiosis.
