Abstract In order to understand distribution of aquatic plants and water quality conditions for river, stream and reservoir in
Chuncheon, we survey three areas of soyang river (sewolgyo), seoksa stream (onuigyo) and norumok reservoir from
April 28 to May 12, 2013. We found a total of 128 aquatic plants as follows; 41 plants in sewolgyo, 53 plants in
onuigyo, and 34 plants in norumok reservoir, respectively. Among them, water foxtail (Alopecurus aequalis Sobol.)
mainly observed in sewolgyo (27 plants), and reed (Phragmites communis Trin.) was found most frequently in
onuigyo (36 plants) and norumok reservoir (26 plants). Particularly, in onuigyo, we observed many species of aquatic
plants and their plants compared to other areas, but in norumok reservoir, which showed the lowest aquatic plants,
we only found lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertner) and reed (Phragmites communis Trin.). On the evaluation of water
quality for the three areas, water quality respectively showed pH 7.1, dissolved oxygen concentration (Do) 7.8 mg/L,
total phosphorus (TP) 0.011 mg/L, total nitrogen (TN) 1.670 mg/L, chemical oxygen demand (COD) 1.3 mg/L in
sewolgyo, pH 6.9, Do 7.5mg/L, TP 0.091mg/L, TN 4.114 mg/L, COD 4.3 mg/L in onuigyo, and pH 6.7, Do 7.2
mg/L, TP 0.092 mg/L, TN 1.292 mg/L, COD 5.0 mg/L in norumok reservoir. The sewolgyo of soyang river showed
the highest in pH and Do. Meanwhile, the norumok reservoir and onuigyo showed the highest in TP and TN,
respectively. And COD was found to be the highest at norumok reservoir. In our study, the results of distribution
of aquatic plants and water quality condition may provide useful information for understanding the distribution of
aquatic plants and water quality condition for rivers, streams, reservoir in Chuncheon.
