Abstract This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Inonotus obliquus and roasted Inonotus obliquus extract powder on lipid metabolism in C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Mice were randomly divided into five groups: normal diet (ND) group, HFD group, HFD group with 1% Inonotus obliquus extract powder (HFD-I) group, HFD with roasted Inonotus obliquus extract powder condition 1 diet (HFD-RI1) group, and HFD with roasted Inonotus obliquus extract powder condition 2 diet (HFD-RI2) group. After 10 weeks, the HFD-I, HFD-RI1, and HFD-RI2 groups had a significantly reduced epididymal adipose tissue weight. Plasma triglyceride, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels were significantly decreased in the HFD group compared to those of the ND group. Furthermore, the atherogenic index and cardiac risk factor were suppressed in the HFD-I, HFD-RI1, and HFD-RI2 groups, with a significant decrease detected in the HFD-RI1 group compared to the HFD group. These results suggest that roasted Inonotus obliquus extract powder may be an effective anti-obesity material by reducing plasma triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
